A highly anticipated battle between #4 Plainfield and #7 Union Catholic continued the trend of what seemed, on paper, another great night of basketball in the mighty Watchung Conference. What fans, media and college coaches in attendance saw instead was a statement of dominance by the Cardinals as they eviscerated Union Catholic from the opening tip in the Union County Game Of The Week presented by Wheelie Good Pierogi.

The game was competitive through the opening quarter as the teams traded baskets, with Micah Gordon starting to warm up immediately. Two quick fouls on freshman prospect Malik Moore sent him to the Union Catholic bench, changing the flow quite a bit and allowing Plainfield to alter its defense. A 9-8 game near the midway point after a Luke Schorr triple became a 23-10 Plainfield lead after the first—With Gordon dropping an unconscious 15 points.
The rout was on in the second as Plainfield locked down on defense, holding UC scoreless for the first six minutes of the quarter, exploding their lead to 40-17 at the break, with Gordon, who recently picked up Rider as an offer, outscoring the Vikings himself with 20 points.
The rest of the game was academic as Plainfield hit running time with a 30 point lead early in the third and cruised their way to a 65-37 blowout victory.
