The Union County Tournament began this week and GSBR began its coverage with the Cranford-New Providence matchup.

The first quarter started well for the Cougars as 6'6" senior forward Nick Amitie scored 10 points as Cranford jumped out to an early lead. New Providence clawed back with T.J Munn having a big opening quarter with 11 points of his own to tie the score. Josh Ketschke scored the last four points as Cranford took a 19-15 lead after the opening stanza.

The second quarter began with both teams trading baskets as Cranford expanded its lead to 34-25. The final portion of the half belonged to Cranford entirely, as half a dozen players grabbed buckets and the Cougars broke open the game withan 11-2 run to stretch the lead to 45-27 at half.

Cranford's depth was on display throughout the contest as nine different Cougars scored as they extended their lead early in the fourth to nearly twenty and cruised to a 69-55 victory as they advance to the next round on Thursday.
