Cranford Scores Senior Night Win over GL

GSBR traveled up the Parkway to Union County for Senior Night for the Cranford Cougars as they honored their 7 seniors for their dedication to the program in the Union County Game Of The Week, Presented By Wheelie Good Pierogi.

Cranford came out with intensity at both ends of the floor and were led by Senior Nick Amitie, who will be playing at Salve Regina University in Rhode Island. The Cougars scored the first 13 points as Amitie drilled a long 3 and several other tough shots as Cranford took a 15-4 lead at the end of the First quarter.

Cranford ballooned their lead in the second behind a pair of triples from Jack McGuire, pushing their advantage to 21-4. Chris Santarelli hit a basket to make it 23-4. While they were on the ropes, Governor Livingston came alive and forced several turnovers as Guard Patrick McGrath hit a deep three and Will Moltasanti had two three point plays as the Highlanders went on a 12-2 run as the first half finished with Cranford in the lead 28-16.

Cranford once again came out strong in the Thord Quarter as the lead expanded back to near twnety behind Three pointers from Santarelli, McGuire and Ryan Klimko.

Gov. Livingston turned up the defense again and cut the lead back to ten behind 7 points from Moltasanti and McGrath as Cranford was ahead 40-30 with two minutes to go in the third. Amitie, not to be outdone, took over, scoring the last 8 points of the quarter to give Cranford a comfortable 48-32 lead headed into the 4th.

Amitie and McGuire once again led the way in the beginning of the 4th as Cranford widened the lead and the Cougars put it on cruise control as they pulled away for decisive 68 to 44 victory against their Union County rivals.
