Donovan Catholic Defeats Keansburg

GSBR began a weekend of coverage on Friday at the Basyshore as 7-3 Donovan Catholic traveled 40 miles up the Parkway to take on the Keansburg Titans in a non divisional tilt.

The Griffins jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes behind a balancd offense led by 2 three pointers by Senior Matt Gerrity, as well half a dozen points from 6’6 junior forward James Gibbons as Coach Mike Kearney’s team led 25-7 after a quarter.
After Donovan Catholic went up 32-10 in the second stanza, Keansburg went on a run, scoring five three point baskets in the second quarter to cut the lead to 34-25 as Ed Robles led the Titans charge to climb back into the game. The Griffins scored the last 5 points of the half as James Gibbons and restored double digit lead going to the break.
The third quarter started with a 10-2 run by Donovan Catholic as Matt Gerrity once again found his groove and hit for 2 three pointers as the lead stretched to 56-32 at the end of three.
The Fourth quarter saw a gritty performance from Keansburg as they came out in a full court press and stole the ball 3 times in a row and fought hard to the end. Both teams were looking at their younger varsity players and the game ended with Donovan catholic easing their way to a 69-42 victory.
