It's a full slate of games on Thursday and fans have plenty of options!

Union County Game Of The Week, Powered By Wheelie Good Pierogi

Elizabeth vs Plainfield, 7P

Last season’s sectional championship game will long live in the lore of the Watchung Conference. Another page in a history book that goes back a century and has countless names of legendary teams, players and coaches written in it.

What will the teams do for an encore to tip off the season in 2024-2025? If this one is half as high-octane as the sectional final was, fans who pack into the storied Dunn Center in midtown will be in for a real treat this evening.

Plainfield enters 2-0 with victories over Patrick School Regional and East Orange. They’re led by sensational sophomore Micah Gordon and junior Rashawn Williams.

Elizabeth opens their season with as tough a game as it gets, but isn’t that just the Watchung Conference way? London Carson has graduated, meaning that the scoring load now falls to the returnees. Senior wing Jojo Torres is experienced and will be tasked with leading the charge. He’ll have plenty of help from the backcourt, which includes a promising D1 prospect of its own in sophomore Jayden Johnson. Cam McRae and Siraj Abdellah were both key players for last year’s team and return in the backcourt as well.

JD Core Training North Jersey Game Of The Day

Saint Benedict’s vs Immaculate Conception, 7P

Saint Benedict’s got the season started with a wild win across the street against Newark Arts. In the contest, two freshmen, Michai White and Chase Bray, announced their arrival, rather loudly.

Immaculate is 2-0 with wins over East Orange and Payne Tech. In the nailbiter over Tech, Myles Blackley exploded for 28 points and Jaren Barnett added 17.

Moorestown vs Cherry Hill West, 5:30P

Moorestown doesn’t rebuild anymore. Moorestown reloads. They’ve established a winning tradition and are a contender almost every season. They beat Eastern 48-42 in their opener behind 16 from Jimmy Trakis.

Cherry Hill West also started out with a win, defeating Cherokee in overtime. Senior prospect Quinn Gibson had a double-double(19&13), while Carter Gill also scored 19 in the win.

This should be a high level game in South Jersey and one that all fans should have an eye on.

Camden Eastside vs Camden Catholic, 7P

Catholic handed Rancocas in their opener, Seamus Bieg and Luke Kennevan combined for 31 in the 58-42 win.

Kenny Avent and his Eastside squad are 2-1 on the season, with wins over Collingswood and Shawnee sandwiched around a loss to Conrad Science(DE). They will be led by senior guard Tyrone Washam and junior Bryce Hillman.
