Holmdel Wins Crosstown Tussle with SJV

Last night, GSBR took in a crosstown rivalry saw the two Holmdel schools take to the hardwood. As Holmdel High(8-1) hosted St. John Vianney(3-5).

Holmdel started out quickly led by Senior guards Nick Seeloch, who recently returned from injury and Ben Kipnis, Who had 10 and 8 points respectively as Holmdel dominated the first quarter and led by a score of 24-10.
The Second quarter as Dylan Costa, playing in his first game since transferring in from Arthur L. Johnson in Clark, began heating up. He scored 14 points in the first half to keep SJV within punching distance at 31-21 at the break.
The second half began with teams trading scores and Holmdel pushed their lead to 13 at 43-30 with midway through the third on baskets by Jack Vallillo and Daxx Corneiro. SJV focused their defenders on both Kipnis and Seeloch and did a good job to limit the Hornets college basketball bound backcourt holding them to just 2 points between them in the third.
In the fourth, Holmdel was steady, holding the between 10 and 12 until a spirited comeback by SJV was led once again by Costa. Costa scored 10 points in the 4th quarter and cut the Holmdel lead to 54-51 with less than minutes two to go. Ben Kipnis and Nick Seeloch took over the stretch trio of fast break baskets as Holmdel pulled away to a 63-54 victory.
