Manalapan Defeats Jackson Memorial


GSBR visited the Shore Conference today to see Jackson Memorial travel up the highway to take on Manalapan.


Manalapan got off to a quick start led by 6'3" senior guard Anthony Leger, who scored 11 of the first 12 points for the Braves and put Manalapan up 12-3 early. Both teams settled into their offenses and Manalapan led 14-6 after 1.


Jackson memorial fought back early in the second quarter with two drives by Anthony Hallihan to make it 21 to 15, but then Aiden Sosinov stole the ball twice and led the fast break for easy baskets as the Braves went into half time with a comfortable double digit lead at 28-18.


Coach Randy Holmes of Jackson Memorial changed his strategy in the 3rd quarter and went with a box and one on Leger guarded by Brady Adams as Memorial worked to claw their way back into the contest. Devin Jones cut the lead to a point late in teh third, and shouldered the load offensively, scoring 12 points in the quarter off two steals and drives to the basket. Sosinov answered back with a triple as the third quarter ended, allowing Manalapan to hold on to a 39-34 lead.


The 4th quarter was a wide open affair as Jackson Memorial led by Brady Adams tied the score at 42. Manalapan called a time out and then Leger took over down the stretch. He dished out 4 assists and scored 10 points.Freshman Joseph Forino found 8 more as Manalapan took a 12 point lead and held on for a 62-52 victory.

The 6'3" senior has blossomed into a top player at the Shore and led the way with 25 points, including an 8-8 performance on the free throw line. Sosinov was also outstanding on the boards with 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
