On Thursday evening, GSBR traveled up the Turnpike to Elizabeth as, Gill St. Bernard’s tangled with Elizabeth in a great test for both teams prior to the county tournaments ramping up in the coming week.

Gill started off fast as they jumped ahead to 12-1 lead which forced Coach Phil Colicchio to call a time out at the six minute mark behind a trio of three point baskets by Kieran Quinn and Dorsett Mulcahy. Elizabeth stormed back as freshman Guard Jayden Johnson dropped four consecutive three pointers. Johnson finished the quarter with 17 points as Elizabeth pushed back to lead 21-20.
The second quarter saw Gill change defenses and play a man to man as Quinn hit two more long three point shots and Mulcahy had 5 points as Gill took a two possession lead. JoJo Torres scored on a layup and hit a long three pointer as the lead continued to change hands. Gill closed with a 6-2 run and the score at the half was 38-34 in favor of the Gladstone school.
The third quarter began fast and furious for the Minutemen, led by Senior London Carson and Torres, as Elizabeth scored the first 10 points of the second half, and did not look back. They racheted up the defensive pressure and caused several turnovers which led to easy baskets by Kareem Anthony. Elizabeth took a double digit lead into the 4th at 60-47 as they outscored Gill St Bernard 26-9 in the third.
The Fourth quarter saw a game Gill squad make a final run led by Jakub Malecki with a three and several tough inside moves as the lead was whittled down to 63-55 , however Elizabth turned up the pressure again to finish off the game and the final score was Elizabeth 75-61 in favor of the Minutemen.
