After starting the season 0-4, Verona needed a shot in the arm. The team has responded by winning 3 of their last 4 games after defeating Weequahic 53-31 on Tuesday Afternoon.

Verona opened the scoring off a turnover and layup and doubled their lead on their next possession with a take to the rim by Will Herman, who led the Hillbillies on the day with 13 points. The teams played a very physical and hard fought quarter but it was the Hillbillies leading 10-3 after 1.

Weequahic got a triple to open the second from junior guard Nahmir Wack to cut it to 10-6. Verona was able to turn misses into makes at the other end in transition and led 15-6 midway through the second. Verona extended their lead to 23-11 at the break.

The third quarter was when Verona turned on the gas and took advantage of several turnovers to double their lead and make the fourth quarter academic as they cruised to a 20 point win.

A committee of Daniel Bernardino, Charles Giacomazza, Gianluca Checchetto,Riley Ying and others combined to hold Weequahic's high scoring sophomore guard Ty Barlow to a season low 7 points. It made the difference in the game and their ability to take him out of the contest gave Verona the edge it needed.
